April 14, 2024 – The Vedic New Year, celebrated in Tamil culture as Puthandu, marks the beginning of the New Year according to the position of the Sun in the zodiac signs, known as “Rashis” in astrology. The Sun moves through twelve different Rashis, each corresponding to a specific period of time. When the Sun completes its cycle through all twelve Rashis and returns to the first one, it signifies the start of a new year. Hence, Puthandu is celebrated as the auspicious day when the Sun enters its initial Rashi, symbolizing the commencement of a new year in the Vedic Solar calendar. Across KAILASA’s global temples, this auspicious day was celebrated with a variety of traditional rituals and festivals.
This day also marks the anniversary of the inauguration of two of the main spiritual embassies of KAILASA in the world: Tiruchengode and Ohio. KAILASA in Tiruchengode, previously named by THE SUPREME PONTIFF OF HINDUISM (SPH), BHAGAVAN SRI NITHYANANDA PARAMASHIVAM as Sri Ramakrishna Dhyanapeetam, located in Avathipalayam, Erode, on the banks of the sacred Kaveri river, was the first ashram established by THE SPH on April 14, 2001, 23 years ago, at ‘Bhavani Sangamam,’ the confluence of the three sacred rivers – Kaveri, Bhavani, and Amirtha.
KAILASA Ohio is the first temple established by THE SPH in the USA and has been directly graced by Kalabhairava Himself. The temple, located at a sacred Prayag, the confluence of sacred rivers, was blessed by THE SPH with the spiritual name of Prayagraj, envisioning it as a pilgrimage center for the Western world. Since its inauguration 17 years ago, the temple has ceaselessly offered spiritual and social services that include free food distribution, spiritual counselling, life-solutions, and many more, for the welfare of the local community.
Today, as KAILASA celebrates these auspicious New Year festivities dedicated to new beginnings, revival, and renewal, we commemorate these anniversaries by remembering KAILASA’s glorious past, gifted to Hindus by THE SPH, and look forward to further reviving Sanatana Hindu Dharma and sharing its finest dimensions with the world.
